Chats

Every interaction with a copilot happens in a chat. Chats are persistent — you can return to any previous chat, continue where you left off, and search across your full history. This page covers the chat interface, managing your history, voice dictation, chat summaries, and how to give feedback on responses.

Starting a chat

  1. Select a copilot from the sidebar.
  2. Type your message in the input box at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Press Enter or click the send button.

To start a new chat with the same copilot at any time, click New chat in the top-right corner.

During a chat

Regenerating a response

If you're not happy with a response, click the refresh icon below it to generate a new one. The copilot produces a fresh response to the same message.

Stopping a response

Click Stop while a response is generating to interrupt it. Useful if the response is heading in a direction you don't want.

Copying a response

Click the copy icon below any response to copy the full text to your clipboard.

Uploading files

Click the attachment icon (📎) in the message input to upload a file from your device or from Google Drive. Uploaded files are available for the remainder of that chat.

Supported formats: PDF, DOCX, TXT, PPTX File size limit: 30MB per file Batch limit: Up to 20 files at a time (you can upload additional batches as needed)

Uploading from Google Drive

  1. Click the attachment icon and select Upload from Google Drive.
  2. If this is your first time, complete the Google Drive authentication — make sure to check the permissions box when prompted.
  3. Browse and select your files.
📘

Google Drive authentication

You can authenticate with any Google account — it doesn't need to match your Fuel iX login. Manage your connection under Profile > Connections.

Files uploaded via Google Drive are temporary — they're available in the current chat only. For permanent document access across multiple chats, connect a knowledge base. Learn about knowledge bases →

Voice dictation (Alpha)

🚧

Voice dictation is in alpha — available to everyone, actively being refined.

Instead of typing, you can speak your message and Fuel iX will transcribe it into the input box.

  1. Click the microphone icon (🎤) in the message input.
  2. Speak your message.
  3. Your speech is transcribed into the text field. Review it, edit if needed, and send.

Voice dictation is useful for longer messages, quick captures, or when your hands are busy. It transcribes to text — the copilot responds in text as usual.

Chat summaries

When a chat reaches the model's context limit, you'll see a message:

"This conversation has exceeded the maximum number of tokens the copilot's model can support. Please either start a fresh conversation, or start a new conversation with a summarized conversation history."

At this point you have two options:

Start fresh conversation — opens a blank new chat with no context carried over.

Generate summary — generates a brief summary of the chat. A modal appears with the summary text. You can:

  • Edit the summary before using it
  • Click Copy summary to copy it to your clipboard
  • Click Start chat with summary to open a new chat with the summary pre-loaded as context

In the new chat, a banner at the top reads "Context from previous conversation" with the summary text and a link back to the original chat.

💡

Tip

You can edit the generated summary before starting the new chat — trim it down or add a note about where you want to pick up.

Managing your chat history

All history

Click All history in the sidebar to see every chat you've had, across all copilots, in reverse chronological order.

Pinning chats

Hover over any chat in the history list and click the star icon to pin it. Pinned chats appear at the top of the list for quick access. Click the icon again to unpin.

Renaming chats

Chats are automatically titled based on your first message. To rename one:

  1. Hover over the chat in the history list.
  2. Click the pencil icon.
  3. Type a new title and save.

Deleting chats

  1. Hover over the chat.
  2. Click the trash icon.
  3. Confirm the deletion.

Deletion is permanent

Deleted chats cannot be recovered. Save anything important before deleting.

Hidden chat history

Some organizations configure copilots to hide chat history for security reasons. If this is enabled for your team, you'll be able to chat normally but won't have access to previous chats after your session ends. Save anything important before closing.

Contact your admin if you have questions about this setting.

Giving feedback on responses (Alpha)

🚧

Response feedback is in alpha — available to all users, actively being refined.

You can give feedback on any copilot response using the thumbs up / thumbs down buttons below each message. You can also leave a comment explaining what worked or what didn't.

Copilot owners can see this feedback in their copilot's Feedback tab and use it to improve the copilot over time.

Your feedback is private — it's visible to the copilot owner and Fuel iX admins, not to other users.
