Use Fuel iX copilots directly inside Slack. Mention the Fuel iX app in any channel where it's been added and get a response from the copilot — without leaving Slack.
Prerequisites
- The Fuel iX Slack app must be added to your Slack channel
- You must have an active Fuel iX account
- First-time users must authenticate their Fuel iX account from Slack
Channels onlyThe Slack integration works in public and private channels. It does not work in direct messages.
Setting up
Step 1: Add the app to your channel
In the Slack channel where you want to use Fuel iX, type:
/invite @Fuel EX AssistantOr use the channel settings to add the app. You only need to do this once per channel.
Step 2: Authenticate your account
The first time you mention the app in a channel, Fuel iX sends you a private Slack message with an authentication link.
- Click the link in the private message.
- Sign into your Fuel iX account.
- Return to Slack and resend your original message — it didn't go through before you authenticated.
Authentication is per user. Each person who wants to use the app in a channel needs to authenticate once.
Using the integration
Basic usage
Mention the app in any channel where it's been added:
@fuelix What's the status of our Q2 roadmap?The response appears in the channel. Use threads for multi-turn conversations — the app can only see messages within the current thread, so threading keeps context together.
Calling a specific copilot
By default, the app uses the Fuel iX Copilot. To use a different copilot you have access to:

- Open the copilot in the Fuel iX web app.
- Copy the ID from the URL:

Other channel members will see the responseWhen you call a specific copilot, only you need access to it, but the response is visible to everyone in the channel. Be thoughtful about what you ask in shared channels, especially if the copilot has access to sensitive systems.
Analyzing files
Upload a PDF, DOCX, or TXT file to the channel and ask the app questions about it.
Limits: Up to 8 files, 20MB each per message.
Limitations
Thread-only context — The app can only see messages in the current thread. It has no awareness of other messages in the channel or previous threads.
Individual authentication — Each user authenticates separately. Calling a custom copilot that others don't have access to will work for you, but they won't be able to call it themselves.
No DMs — The app only works in channels.
Troubleshooting
App doesn't respond — Verify the app has been added to the channel and that you've authenticated. If you haven't authenticated, you'll get a private message with an auth link — complete that and resend your message.
Can't access a specific copilot — Verify you have access to that copilot in the Fuel iX web app and that the copilot ID is correct.
App seems to forget context — Each thread is independent. For a multi-turn conversation, reply within the same thread rather than starting new messages.
Best practices
Use threads for any conversation that goes beyond a single question. The app maintains context within a thread, so threading keeps your conversation coherent.
Save copilot IDs in channel descriptions if your team regularly uses a specific copilot from Slack — it saves everyone from looking it up each time.
Add the app once per channel and all authenticated users in that channel can then use it.
