Tools and capabilities
Tools extend what a copilot can do beyond conversation. Each tool is a discrete capability that can be enabled or disabled per copilot in the copilot settings. Some tools are available to all organizations; others require administrator enablement first. This page explains what each tool does and how to use it effectively.
Checking which tools a copilot has
Click the copilot's name at the top of a chat to open the copilot details panel. The tools enabled for that copilot are listed there.
To add or remove tools from a copilot you own, go to Copilot Settings and toggle the tools in the capabilities section.
Image creator
Generates images from a text description directly inside the chat.
How to use it: Type a description of the image you want — "a minimalist diagram showing a three-tier architecture" or "a friendly robot reading a book, flat design style." The copilot generates the image and displays it in the chat.
You can ask for revisions, style changes, or variations. The more specific your description, the closer the result will be to what you're imagining — include style, color, composition, and mood when it matters.
Image editing
Upload an existing image and ask the copilot to modify it — changing colors, removing elements, adjusting style, or adding content.
How to use it: Upload an image using the attachment icon, then describe the change you want. "Change the background to white," "make this look like a watercolor painting," or "remove the text overlay."
Search internet
Gives the copilot access to current information from the web. Without this tool, the copilot's knowledge is limited to its training data.
How to use it: Ask anything that might benefit from current data — recent news, live pricing, updated documentation, company information. The copilot searches, retrieves relevant results, and incorporates them into its response.
When to use itEnable Search internet for copilots that regularly need up-to-date information. For static knowledge bases (policies, product docs), connected knowledge bases are more reliable than live search.
Image analysis
Allows the copilot to interpret and describe the contents of images you upload. Useful for analyzing charts, reading diagrams, extracting text from screenshots, or getting a structured description of a visual.
How to use it: Upload an image and ask a question about it. "What does this chart show?" "What's the architecture in this diagram?" "Is there any text I can't read clearly in this image?"
Generative UI
Enables the copilot to generate and render interactive Prisms — live UI components — directly in the chat. Instead of describing a table, chart, or calculator in text, the copilot builds and displays it.
How to use it: Ask the copilot to visualize something. "Turn this data into a table I can sort," "build a simple calculator for this formula," or "show me this process as a flowchart." The Prism appears in the chat and you can interact with it directly.
Code Execution (Beta)
Code Execution is in beta — available to selected organizations, actively being refined.
Runs Python code in a sandboxed environment, directly in the chat. The copilot can write code, execute it, and show you the output — all in one step.
What it's for: Data analysis, file generation, formula verification, automation scripting, and any task that benefits from actually running code rather than just describing it.
How to use it: Ask the copilot to analyze data, calculate something, or generate a file. "Analyze this CSV and show me the top 10 rows by revenue." "Write and run a script that converts this JSON to a table." The copilot writes the code, executes it, and returns the result — you can see both the code and the output.
You can upload files (CSV, XLSX, and others) and ask the copilot to process them programmatically.
Admin setup requiredCode Execution must be enabled by your organization administrator. Contact your admin if you don't see it in your copilot settings.
Query Files (Alpha)
Query Files is in alpha — available to everyone, actively being refined.
Lets the copilot query the full content of an uploaded document, rather than relying solely on what fits in the active context window. Better for long documents where you need accurate retrieval from specific sections.
How to use it: Upload a file and ask questions about its contents. Query Files works alongside the standard file upload — you don't need to do anything differently; it enhances what the copilot can do with the uploaded content.
Schedule Task (Alpha)
Schedule Task is in alpha — available to everyone, actively being refined.
Lets you set up recurring tasks that your copilot runs automatically on a schedule, delivering results via email and in-app notifications.
How to use it: Ask your copilot in natural language: "Search for AI news every weekday at 9 AM" or "Summarize our new Jira tickets every Monday at 8:30 AM." The copilot confirms the details and creates the task. You can manage, pause, or delete scheduled tasks from My Copilot Hub > Copilot tasks.
Alpha limitations:
- Maximum 10 active tasks per user
- Scheduled times must use 15-minute intervals (:00, :15, :30, :45)
- Some MCP integrations have limited support in scheduled contexts
Copilot Memory (Alpha)
Copilot Memory is in alpha — available to everyone, actively being refined.
Builds a shared memory bank from interactions with this specific copilot. Over time, the copilot retains factual statements made during chats and uses them to improve future responses.
Unlike personal memory (which is private to you), copilot memory is shared — all users of the copilot contribute to and benefit from it.
Call Copilot (Alpha)
Call Copilot is in alpha — available to everyone, actively being refined.
Enables communication between copilots — one copilot can call another to complete a step in a workflow. Useful for chaining specialized copilots together.

TELUS Translation
Provides EN↔FR translation powered by TELUS Unicorn.brain. When enabled, the copilot can translate between English and French, optimized for Canadian context and terminology.
Date and Time
Gives the copilot awareness of the current date and time. Useful for copilots involved in scheduling, deadline tracking, planning, or any task where temporal context matters.
Without this tool, the copilot doesn't know what today's date is.
File Upload
Lets users upload documents directly into the chat for analysis. Supported formats: PDF, DOCX, TXT, PPTX. Maximum file size: 30MB.
When this tool is enabled on a copilot, an attachment icon appears in the message input for all users of that copilot. Learn more about uploading files →
Reasoning
The Reasoning toggle isn't a tool — it's a model setting available on supported models. When enabled, the model thinks through a problem before generating its response. This improves accuracy on complex, multi-step tasks but may increase response time.
Reasoning is configured per copilot in the model settings section, not in the tools list.
